Core 3: Psychological Assessment. L.K. Paul, PI

Core 3 provides all resources for human subject recruitment, assessment, and databasing; it recruits a representative large sample from the general community for research participation and also includes collection of blood and saliva samples purely for storage and data sharing with other investigators. This Core utilizes the Caltech Psychological Assessment Laboratory (PAL), whose mission is to provide recruitment and comprehensive, centralized testing of human research participants on psychological measures. PAL provides services for obtaining measures of cognitive abilities, personality traits, psychiatric history, and psychosocial background. Researchers in the Conte Center use this information for inclusion and exclusion screening, for statistical use as covariates in group analyses, and for statistical comparison across subjects in research studies that investigate individual differences.  Exclusion from Conte research participation can be for many different reasons, and researchers are not allowed to discuss the specific reasons a participant may not be included in future tasks.
