Project 2: Social Inference and Altruism. R. Adolphs, PI; C. Hutcherson, Co-PI

This project builds directly on Project 3 of our previous Conte Center on altruism, which was directed by Antonio Rangel and featured work by Cendri Hutcherson. We will look at how variability in altruistic decision-making arises from modulation by social inference, building on two of the systems already investigated in Project 1 (social inference and action imitation). How does the level of social inference influence social decision-making? What contextual factors determine how we represent another person, so that we can make prosocial choices about them?
