Project 4: Social Inference and the Self. R. Andersen, PI; U. Rutishauser, Co-PI

This project builds directly on the human electrophysiology component that we had previously distributed as an Aim across several Projects in our current Conte Center (with the same PIs, Andersen and Rutishauser). It includes single-unit recordings of action observation (linking to Projects 1 and 2), social error processing (linking to Project 3), and has a unique longitudinal Aim in patients with neural prosthetics in whom we can record for over a year. It will primarily use direct recordings from the human brain in (a) patients undergoing epilepsy monitoring, and (b) rare patients with electrodes implanted for brain-machine interfaces. We will also enroll the epilepsy patients in several fMRI studies at Caltech to obtain comparison data.
